Add Scrollable list view

First suggested 1328 days ago

at work today i loaded up FF3 with my new nearly favorite extension RIL ona win2000 OS (sigh) and everything works except...in the drop dowon list of RIL links the "page #" optiono box does not show up at all. the only RIL links available are the first "page" of them.

the fix i would vote for is a scrolling list rather than a paginated list of RIL links (like the FF@ version had). it would work in Win2000, and, IMHO, be quicker&easier to scroll in the FF3 version of RIL regardless of OS.

[btw, i like the idea above for an automatic and customizable RIL tag for all links.]

super extension! i think you'll get into the hall of fame with this very useful contribution to FF.

    when i load RIL on a win2000 OS (at work) everything works with one exception -- in the RIL drop down list the “page #” option box does not show up, so the only RIL links available are those on the first “page”.

    i suggest a scrolling list rather than a paginated list of RIL links (like the FF2 version had). i expect it would not only work in Win2000, but be quicker-&-easier to scroll. going from one 'page' to another seems artificial (no advantage) and cumbersome / tedius.

    TIA

    @Ken:

    I can't verify that RIL will work as intended on a win2000 machine. My guess is there may be some unsupported features on an OS that old. I will try to locate a machine with it installed and do my best however.

    In regards to the scrolling, I have actually been looking at other ways to handle this and scrolling is one I've considered. Let me explain a little about why I choose pagination. RIL users on average have about 10 pages of links saved. Even with sorting/filtering, it is just easier for them to jump deep into the list using pages rather than having to scroll all the way down.

    I'm definitely actively thinking/working to find the perfect solution for handling this and I do have some other ideas that will be coming soon to help manage it.

    Keep the feedback coming!

    i love your descriptive line: "a staging area for bookmarks". yes, indeed!

    the filter feature could be described as an awesome bar for read-it-later bookmarks. it is excellent.

    thanks for the default tag feature.

    re scrolling rather than paging, the only issue i have found with win2000 -- this little legacy wrinkle has brought up what i think would be an improvement overall: scrolling navigation. in a scrollable window, if the "page down" key functionality and a scrollbar are both active, any benefits of a paging (page by page) system are available (via pgdn key - faster, too!) and the scrollbar also makes is possible to zoom to what you want. i don't see any downside to scrolling.

    maybe a bug(?): i find that the ordering of read-it-later bookmarks by my chosen default (latest on top, ordered by date) does work when the window is opened; i have to re-choose my preference then the latest are indeed moved up. but they are not on top when window is opened, even when that preference appears to be "sticky" in the window.

    thanks for your work on this fine extension.
