Bookmarklet has suddenly stopped working

First reported 519 days ago in Version Don't know Version: Don't know Browser: Safari

Some weeks ago, I downloaded your app for Ipad and then installed the bookmark let in safari. All went well, the bookmarked installed, tested fine, worked fine!

Then all of a sudden it just stopped working. Won't save pages anymore.

Please advise

    Hey Lani,

What happens when you try to save? Do you get an error message? Does it say 'Saving... / Saved!'

I know this is going to sound weird...but I get different results at different times and with different web pages. For example, as a test, I just tried to save this particular page from you: all that happened was...nothing at all. But then, right after that, I loaded a different page, at random, from a magazine website I like to read and clicked on the bookmarklet: that action immediately brought up the standard "saving/saved" response. But here's the thing: even in this case - when I actually did get the "correct" response from the bookmarklet - it wasn't really working. Because when I went to my Readitllater app and opened it, the "saved" page did not download and was not available for me to read.

fYI: yesterday I thought I had solved the problem by simply deleting, then reinstalling the bookmarklet. Everything seemed to be working well. Tried saving a few web pages. The "saved" sign flashed. Went to my app, the saved pages downloaded and were available for me to read. Problem solved, right? Wrong! Later that day, I had to reboot/turn off my iPad (hold down the button and slide the red bar until the device powered off). When i powered back on, all of a sudden I was back to square one, with the situation as I have described to you in the first paragraph.

      Thanks, Lani

    Hey Lani

Are you on a reliable wifi connection? Is this a 3G iPad?

When you click the bookmarklet it does have to connect to RIL to load it. If there is no (or a limited connection) this may prevent the dialog from appearing.

What is strange about this is that it would show you 'Saved!' and then not appear in the app.

First thing I would check is opening your bookmarks. Make sure you only have one bookmarklet listed there. (In case you are selecting an old one periodically).

Can you copy/paste the code you have saved for the bookmarklet here and send me your username?

My wifi connection fluctuates a lot, sometimes very strong, sometimes very weak. Right now, for example, it is running very well...and because of that, I just retested. In this test, the bookmarklet flashed the "saved" sign over the webpage, but nevertheless, when I opened the app, nothing downloaded.

My iPad is version 3.2.2. I only have one bookarklet (I deleted the previous one so I would not get confused).

    My username is: laniselick
The code for the bookmarklet is: javascript:function iprl5(){var d=document,z=d.createElement('scr'+'ipt'),b=d.body,l=d.location;try{if(!b)throw(0);d.title='(Saving...) '+d.title;z.setAttribute('src',l.protocol+'//www.instapaper.com/j/lNqtZlfIgG38?u='+encodeURIComponent(l.href)+'&t='+(new Date().getTime()));b.appendChild(z);}catch(e){alert('Please wait until the page has loaded.');}}iprl5();void(0)

    Hey Lani

That code is for a different service's (Instapaper) bookmarklet. They use a confusingly similar phrase for their bookmarklet 'Read Later' vs 'Read It Later'.

To eliminate any further confusion I would recommend:
    1. Removing all bookmarklets labeled 'Read Later' or 'Read It Later'
    2. Reinstalling the Read It Later bookmarklet. There are instructions/video demos detailing the install process here:

    Dear me!

I am so very sorry to have bothered you! I have just followed your instructions for installing the correct bookmarklet and now - naturally - your app works perfectly!

Thanks for all your help. This is a great app.
