Print capabilities question

First asked 549 days ago Browser: Firefox 3.0

I just got Read it Later and it is tremendously helpful. It makes researching material on the internet sooo much easier. I'd like to do one thing, but don't know whether it is possible. Is there a way to print out the Read it Later list, or selections from the list like you can select and have grouped later for offline viewing? The particular thing that brought this question to mind is that it is difficult to print out multiple web pages. I frequently shop for books on the internet. I may find 20-50 on a given subject that I want to consider before buying. Amazon and similar sites allow you to do a "wish list" that is limited in detail, hence of no real use in reviewing later. I do most of my printing to Adobe to make PDF files, which I may then print on paper later if needed. But, it is a laborious process to do this one page at a time. If there were an accessible compilation of views of each page (i.e., a list of files, each one page) it could be accomplished easily. Although I hadn't thought about this before, being able to do that would also help when doing research for material on the internet. Being able to compile a single document of the research you wanted that could be reduced to a single document (or even a file folder with just what you want in it) would be very helpful-- it could be stored separately with other information in a document file.

    Hey Glenn,

Forgive me if I misunderstood you, but you are looking to be able to print off all of the page content saved to RIL, not just a list of the titles/urls correct?

If that's the case, there is not a built in feature for this, but I definitely think you could make it work with the existing feature set. Give this a shot:

    1. Open your Reading List
    2. Click 'Read Offline'
    3. Follow the on-screen instructions to prepare your list for offline viewing
    4. Browse to your Firefox Profile directory
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile
    5. Inside that directory you will see a folder called 'Read-It-Later Offline', open it
    6. There should be several HTML files in this directory

From those HTML files, which are now local copies of the websites saved in your list. Using Abode, perhaps you could combine them all into a PDF and then print that?

Let me know how that goes, I'd be interested to know!

I had this same question/issue as well. The above solution is well, it's OK. Much better if there was a more automatic way.

These is an add-on that helps (though not available for the latest FF version) - "print all tabs" ... so theoretically you can open all the readit tagged sites and then just print all.

But even better (Ideashower developers) is if we could just look at the dropdown list and check off which ones to print.

Or even easier ... Alt-W is to mark to read later ... how about another key (or mode) that flags them to PRINT later.

Great utility ... lots of potential for greatness. thanks for writing it    Private comment hidden

    Hey CJ

I think this would be a prime candidate for a Read It Later add-on tool. I recently opened up the RIL API so any developer could build tools that work with RIL:

I also added this page to the list of ideas for developers needing ideas:

OK thanks. Not being a developer, I guess I'll have to wait ; )

My next avenue is to see if I get get this running on my G1-Android .... (any tips?) my intent is to read the collection of links/pages when no where near the main computer (like when I am at the gym) ... right now this means taking a stack of printouts. tomorrow it might mean using a kindle or my android. Any suggestions on how I can port the reading list (and readit) to android?

    thanks
