One syncing issue that affects a small subset of pages marked as read has been corrected in version 1.1

Version 1.1 will be submitted to the app store review process Friday April 8th, 2009 - If all goes well, generally review times take about a week.

Dont know specifically what type of links arent getting synced by others, but as well as I can tell at the moment none of my links are syncing. If I uncheck an item on my iphone, then click Save and then the sync button...it states that sync is completed. Then when I go to my pc and sync...nothing gets removed. Any ideas?

Are you using the Firefox extension on your pc?

If so, open your reading list and click the Options link in Read It Later.

Then on the rss/syncing tab, make sure that syncing is turned on.

If it is not, enable it and click 'setup sync'. Select the first option, 'I am syncing for the first time'.

It will then show you a username and password, make sure that it is the same username and password that you are using on your phone.

If that doesn't work or you are not using the FF extension, ping me back

I am showing several pages marked as read on the server, just to make sure though, can you log into your account at http://readitlaterlist.com

Are the items listed in your 'read' list the items you marked as read from your phone?

I'm using the ipod touch 1st generation, and I only just installed Read It Later for that (i.e., I'm not really using it on my computer or anything, I'm using it solely to save pages to read on my ipod). It works for the most part but I've tried to save a few articles from the New Yorker and they will not work in Offline mode, only in Online mode (which defeats the purpose).

Also, I am confused about how it works when I mark something as read. Does that delete it? For the ipod app I'd rather have a normal red minus sign to delete things, I'm confused about what marking something as read does.

      Hey Jessica

I'm continuing to improve compatibility for certain sites. If you have any pages you know that don't render well, if you could post the urls here, it would be very helpful:
      http://ideashower.com/support/read-it-later/report-pages-not-saving-well-offline-here/

Marking a page as read will remove the item from your iPod. It's pretty much the same thing as deleting but it still keeps it in your 'read' list on http://readitlaterlist.com

If you would like to delete something completely from your account you can log into your account and remove it from your read list.

      Thanks!

How long do you expect people to spend setting this App up?? This is probably the most confusing setup I've ever seen in an iPhone app. I downloaded the app & have spent the last 20 minutes trying to get it to sync w/ my computer. It will very soon be deleted & given a poor rating. Pull it together & make this process easier.

      Hey Laurel

I know that setting up a bookmarklet on an iPhone is a tedious process. I'm sorry that it has to be that way. Developers have been asking for apple to provide an easier method for this but we are still waiting.

Any problems setting up sync however should be easily solvable. Please shoot me an email at RIL@ideashower.com and I'd be happy to help.

      Thanks!

I am also having trouble synching. I am using Safari on my computer. I have three items in my Reading List on my computer, but when I sync, none of them is transferred to my iPhone. What to do?

      Hey Lynne

Can you send me your username (you can provide it in the private information box below).

Also, try logging in to your account at: http://readitlaterlist.com/l
If the items show up there, open Read It Later on your iPhone and click the options button. Scroll down and select 'logout'.

On the next screen select 'I already use Read It Later' and reenter the login you just used on the website. Then try syncing again.

    Hi
I've created an account and the items in the account sync with the iPhone (free version) no problem however it appears to be trying to download the pages themselves indefinitely, including those default help pages for Read It Later.

Does this app require any special ports to be open or that sort of thing? I'm using it with my Office's wifi network that is behind a firewall etc. However I have no problem browsing the same web pages in Safari through the wifi.

    Any ideas?

If you turn off wifi and use 3G or edge do the offline downloads work?

      Posted Apr 14 09 reply
  • Aaron

By the way the Wifi network also has a Proxy with credentials if that helps. But Safari is working fine with those credentials. As is the part of the Read It Later app that downloads the rss list.

    Hi Nate,

You are correct it does work when I turn of WiFi and grabs it through 3G. I'll try my home wifi tonight (which has no proxy) and see if that works. Odd that the RSS GET works fine in Read It Later but not the web pages. Do the two use a different system?

    Posted Apr 14 09 reply
  • Aaron

Yes it does work through WiFi at home. So it does look like it might be proxy related.

If you fix this issue I'll definitely get the pro version. I tend to find articles at work for research that I don't have time to read straight away and it would be nice to read on the train. Being able to sync at work before leaving is good because it's fast and free.

    • Nate

Hey Aaron, it's hard to exactly the problem without having the device in hand but I'll do some more research about the effects of proxies here. Any additional information on how your wifi works there is helpful.

Nate...still having issues, any ideas? I just tested by marking the last item in my list(AnandTech - Anandtech Member Case Gallery!) as read, saved and synced(via my iphone). Synced on the firefox plugin and it still shows up as well as viewed the Unread list via the website and it still shows up.
