    Hey Asad

Sorry it's taken me a day to get back to you, realize this sort of thing can be pretty stressful.

There are several different ways we can try to recover your list, here some recommended methods:

    ---
First, do you store your reading list online at readitlaterlist.com? This is enabled by default in the RSS/Syncing section of the Read It Later options. If you have been saving your list there, then you'll likely be able to recover it very easily.

First log into your account at http://readitlaterlist.com Do the items show up in your unread list? If so do the following:

    1. Open Firefox.
    2. Type in about:config into the location bar (hit enter)
    3. In the filter field enter isreaditlater.last_usync
    4. Right click the row and select 'Reset'
    5. Try Syncing Again

If they are not in your 'unread' list , try checking your 'read' items. Do they appear there?

If they do then if you provide me with the date/time your items disappeared and your feed id/password (provide this in the 'private information field below'), then I can flip them all back over to read. Or you can simply flip to 'Click to Save' mode and resave all of the items.

    --

If you are not saving your list online, then first check to see if your Read It Later folder exists in your Firefox bookmarks. (Bookmarks menu -> Organize Bookmarks). If you have a Read It Later folder and your list is in there, open the Read It Later options, select the General tab and use the dropdown to reselect your Read It Later folder location.

If your Read It Later folder is not there, then it sounds like you may have lost your Firefox bookmarks and I would suggest visiting this article:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks

Lastly, do you have Foxmarks installed? If you do it may have been the cause as it can cause syncing issues with Read It Later:

      Hey Nate

I am saving my list online and syncing it. I have done the about:config option but there is no entry for 'isreaditlater.last_usync' (it does not appear in the list). I have tried the other options you suggested but they don't work either.

Is there another way to restore them???

    Hey Nate

I found em!!!!!! The items have been marked 'read' and they are in the 'read' list. Now I am not entirely sure how many of them were 'read' or 'unread' so how about you just switch all 'read' items to 'unread'???

I've flipped them all over to unread.

Do you have Foxmarks installed? Still trying to pinpoint what went wrong here. Thanks.

They are still all appearing under 'read'...have reset 'isreaditlater.last_get'

Yeah I do have foxmarks installed...i think i may have made foxmarks remove the RIL folder and then cause RIL to overwrite that folder with a blank folder. But that still doesnot explain what happened to the online list...

Hey Asad, when I look at your online account, using the feed id that you sent me, all of the items are showing as 'unread'?

Are you looking at the same account as you sent me?

Regarding foxmarks, since the list on your computer and the list on the server are synced to match, if you removed them from your computer, they would be marked as read on server.

    Nate

Yes, the items are now being displayed in the 'unread' section but there are still 10 pages of items that are marked 'read'. Kindly make them all turn to 'unread'.

    Cheers

    hi,
this is a great extension and I find it very useful, but today all my "unread" items went "read", after trying to sync with Weave on another computer.
this has happened before when my Firefox bookmarks got corrupted and I recovered most of what I lost from the "read" list by opening each site from the list and marking it as "unread".
could you please flip all of my items to "unread"?
also, I cannot find where to switch to "Click to Save" mode and Firefox 3.1b4 is redirected to the mobile version of the reading list.
It would be great if there would be an option to toggle items read/unread on the site, as the extension does not show the read items. Maybe this is already implemented, but I could not find it.

    Thank you.    Private comment hidden

    hello again,
an update to my previous message:
I've managed to restore locally the reading list and have disabled the syncing. I'll try to restore the online list, found the "Click to save" mode, it's the default Alt+M shortcut.

Anyway, it would be very helpful to have the possibility to switch statuses of the items on the website.

    Thanks.

Thanks for the tweet with the link to this thread. I checked the site and they have indeed all been marked as 'read'. This happened three days ago when I installed the Firefox plugin on a new computer. If you could flip them to 'unread' that would be great :).    Private comment hidden

    hi again Nate,

this is a re-request as i now have two read-it-later folders in my bookmarks after i tried out the suggested profiles method.

to avoid losing my RIL bookmarks, i have decided to uninstall xmarks until this issue could be resolved.

so could you kindly flip all the items on my list back to 'unread' once again?

    regards

i had the problem where my RIL button suddenly disappeared. i tried all the advice from a different thread and nothing worked. i ended up uninstalling, then re-installing the program. this was successful and thank goodness my links were saved in a bookmarks folder, but i can't get back the drop-down list of the links when i click under the check mark. so, i can get to my links the long way but was wondering if there's a way to get the drop-down list back. i already tried to reselect the the folder under options and it didn't work. any other suggestions?

    Hey Aileen

The dropdown reading list is off of the book icon, not the checkmark icon. Check out this thread on how to find the book icon if it's gone missing:

I'm going to remove this add-one. I hate it when I depend on something and it disappeared!

    hi Nate,

yet another request flip all the items on my list back to 'unread' once again.

i prefer my bookmarks to remain unread. i wonder there can be an option like this? because if i have read it, i normally would delete them.

    thanks again.    Private comment hidden

      Done.

A feature to manage this yourself is planned.

    When you say this below

"If you are not saving your list online, then first check to see if your Read It Later folder exists in your Firefox bookmarks. (Bookmarks menu -> Organize Bookmarks). If you have a Read It Later folder and your list is in there, open the Read It Later options, select the General tab and use the dropdown to reselect your Read It Later folder location."

It is not true and should be corrected. As i am looking for help and can not find a way to re add or locate and put my bookmarks into the correct spot so they are pulled up by the read it later button and system. They show in my bookmarks folder but not in the lists.. After the update of readitlater.

Now i know they are i the profile folder but even when i copy and paste them there they still do not show up.

I will be posting a topic on this.
