Hello, I am using 'Read later it' with iPhone.
Thank you for great app.

I think Add button is used to add safari bookmarklet on first time only.
So it should be moved to Preference or Settings pane, not Top page such as current.

And I found problem on built-in 'Getting started guide' to render for Text mode viewing.

RLI is still version 1.0, so I expect that it evolves to greatest iPhone app.

Regards

    Hey Wori

Could you elaborate on the issue you found with the Getting Started Guide, I wasn't completely clear on what the problem was.

Thanks for the comments, as you said, 1.0 is just the beginning, I'm excited to see this app grow!

    Thanks!

Could you add the ability to format the text that shows up in text only mode on the iPhone?

    • Nate

      Hey Zaven

You can modify the font size and font currently, but did you have any specific formats you wanted to be able to change?

      Posted Jun 26 09 reply
  • Zaven

Didnt realize you could change those. I was thinking the background color as well (kinda prefer to read on a slightly off-white myself). Got the idea from this bookmarklet, http://lab.arc90.com/experiments/readability/ , it's what I use when I'm using read it later on my desktop.

    Hi,

For version 2.0 please consider making an app for the Palm Pre. I know i am likely to be in the significant minority here but it sure would be helpful
    Thanks.

Nice app! A minor suggestion: make the title under the iPhone icon shorter so it fits without the elipsis (...). Looks a little sloppy now.

Hi, I have a problem with your extension. Let me explain how I see this problem.

I have some sites I use with this extension that sends gzipped CSS files. Unfortunately for my eyes, your plugin for my firefox does not unpack these CSS files for viewing. They remain unpacked. So all my sites are viewed "style-less" if you know what I mean.

The easy solution is to add a "magic" look-up like in linux, where your plugin scan the header information of the file and check if the CSS file "IS compressed" or not, and If it is, it unpacks it - of course.

Please send me an email for further information or assistance on this matter.    Private comment hidden

Well, let me critical about my post and your reply Nate. Nothing personal.

Why is it so hard to implement a routine that simply check the MIME type so that in this given example ALL sites automatically are checked and if as in my example CSS files that are GZIPPED are just handled, instead of some stupid ass (sorry my language) routine of correcting "certain" sites?

Just an opinion. But a damn good one in my thoughts. Then you (guys/girls) will most likely get more freetime because you most likely have to work less.

I'm open for criticism and slammers due to my language and opinions. Hit me hard for this if you like.

      Hey Martin

It seems you misunderstood my intentions. The current version of the add-on relies on Firefox's pre-built methods for saving webpages. However, the new 2.0 version which I'm currently working on has it's own downloading engine (the same one now on the iPhone app). This handles these pages more efficiently. I had asked for the URLs of your problem pages so I can double check them against the new engine to ensure that there isn't a problem.

There are no case-by-base/site-defined algorithms. I simply use each site to identify what's not working and then fill the hole that's missing in the main downloading engine.

I really Like "Read it Later" great ext for Firefox. Thank you for it's creation.
I surf the net a lot, not always do I have time to read every page i find and want to look at more closely.

I usually end up bookmarking it somewhere and moving on. For me, ''when I am not looking for something,...I find those little treasure " On the internet!. And as I said, I do not always have the time to come back and check them out.

They are usually lost again within my bookmarks.lol. Until i am bored enough to go looking through my vast collections of bookmarks.

However "Read it Later" has changed that!.

Though it would be nice If, I could choose to save what i found in 'Read it Later' And if i could add my "Read it Later" to folders. Better still just allow us to totally tweak how we want to see and handle the data.
(Folder's,Icon's,Colored Folder's,Description,Screenshot, Save to folder or USB drive,Google Documents, ..ETC!.)

THIS WOULD BE JUST AWESOME!!! to an already great tool.
    Thank you

    Hi,

Would it be possible to add a "link depth" feature for offline reading?

    Example:
I'd like to bookmark a mobile website (m.nytimes.com, m.reuters.com), etc. and then set the link depth to "1". On sync, the app would load both the top-level page and all linked pages "n" deep. If "n" equals "1", all pages linked from the top page would be downloaded. If "n" equals "2," all pages linked from the top page, plus all links from the "child" pages will be downloaded. And so on.

This was a great feature in Avantgo (RIP), which I used to read mobile sites offline when on the subway, on planes, etc.

    Hi guys,

thank you for Read it later! It's a great tool!

I'd appreciate, if there was a keyboard shortcut for opening the first page in "Your reading list" in a new tab with no need to go to the list before. It be really convenient.

    Thank you!

I don't really need the integration of RIL bookmarks into the standard Firefox bookmarks for any other reason except for opening many bookmarks at once (by using "Manage bookmarks"). In RIL 2.0 I don't see any way to open more than one bookmark at once. Is that right? If yes, I would very much like such a possibility (maybe a mode similar to "Manage bookmarks ..." for standard Firefox bookmarks).

I love this tool. My only complaint is that I wish the drop down menu was a static size. When I am browsing through my reading list quickly, occasionally I accidentally uncheck the bottom item on that page, just above the "next" button.

    Hello Nate,

First of all, thanks for this great program. I use it with Firefox on my PC and I have bought PaperDroid pro (which syncs automatically) for my Android phone.

I have a request for the Firefox version: would it be possible to make untagged pages appear in the Tags view under an "Untagged" heading?

This way I could make sure that all of my saved pages are tagged, and tag them immediately if they are not.

Now, if you really had time to spare :-), a drag-and-drop tag feature on top of that would be excellent!

Can you add support for texting in notes? Adding it as an email doesnt work because of the 160 character limit (and mobile web costs money).

    Hello Nate,

I was one of v2.0 testers. I purchased yesterday Instapaper to compare with RIL and honestly saying I regret my decission to spend $5
RIL is much, much better and more user friendly. However let me suggest something for next update to make RIL even better. The reason I paid for Instapaper was "folders" which would be very good to have here. Next, text wrap while making fonts bigger, tilt scroll another useful feature though not very important. Number one priority for me is ability to make FOLDERS.
Thank you and keep good job

Happy New Year to all of you who reads here :)

I like the suggestion for link depth. I was going to suggest something like incorporating autopager, or something similar. I tend to save longer articles, which tend to be broken up over multiple pages, which makes offline reading a bit difficult. I know I could always save each page, but that has it's own set of problems. I;'m sure this isn't trivial to do by any means, but figured it was worth the mention. Really love the product as a whole though.
